2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid vs Honda CR-V Hybrid: Which Wins? A $2,000 AWD Price Gap Against a Proven Hybrid

Nissan's first e-POWER Rogue costs about $2,000 less than an AWD CR-V Hybrid and brings 225 hp, but its mpg is only an estimate and the CR-V has more cargo room.

Nissan revealed the 2027 Rogue Hybrid on September 21, 2026, according to Jalopnik, and it is the first e-POWER hybrid sold in North America and a Rogue hybrid that does not plug in. Its most natural target is the Honda CR-V Hybrid, a rival that Nissan's own pricing now undercuts at all-wheel drive. Fuel economy matters more than it did a year ago: AAA's national regular average was $4.2953 a gallon on October 19, 2026, against $3.0362 a year earlier. One limit applies to everything below. The EPA has not published ratings for the Rogue Hybrid, Nissan's 38 mpg is an estimate for the mid-range SR trim, and FuelEconomy.gov showed no 2027 Rogue rows when we checked, so the Rogue's efficiency is a claim, while the CR-V's is a rating.

The Rogue Hybrid works differently from nearly every hybrid on sale. Its turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, rated at 148 horsepower, never drives the wheels; it only generates electricity for a 1.67-kilowatt-hour battery and two motors, a 202-horsepower unit on the front axle and a 134-horsepower unit at the rear. System output is 225 horsepower, 24 more than the gasoline Rogue, and all-wheel drive is standard. There is no plug. Jalopnik reports the SV weighs 4,065 pounds against 3,657 for a gasoline Rogue SV AWD, and says Nissan quotes 31.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 65.9 with them folded. Jalopnik also reports a 1,500-pound towing rating, which one other source treats as provisional.

The CR-V Hybrid is the conventional design. Honda's specification page lists a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder with a 181-horsepower, 247-pound-foot electric motor, for 204 horsepower in total, in the Sport, TrailSport, Sport-L and Sport Touring trims. Cars.com, in a September 10 pricing story, says the 2027 CR-V is unchanged except for price, so the hybrid is a known quantity: it has been on sale for several model years, and the EPA has rated it. The gas CR-V continues alongside it with a 190-horsepower 1.5-liter turbo, from $33,070 with destination for the LX.

Now the prices. Nissan lists the 2027 Rogue Hybrid SV AWD at $35,490, the SV with the Premium package at $37,590, the SR at $37,490, the SR with the Technology package at $41,490 and the Platinum at $43,490, all before a $1,575 destination charge, which is $37,065 to $45,065 with it. Cars.com lists the CR-V Sport Hybrid at $37,580 with its $1,550 destination charge, front-drive, and adds $1,500 for all-wheel drive, so an AWD Sport Hybrid comes to about $39,080. That makes the Rogue Hybrid SV AWD about $2,000 cheaper than the CR-V Sport Hybrid AWD. The advantage flips at the top: the CR-V Sport Touring Hybrid is $44,500 with destination, with AWD standard, about $565 below the Rogue Platinum. The Sport-L Hybrid at $40,675 front-drive is the nearest match for the SR, and the Rogue is about $3,100 cheaper once you add AWD to both. Different sources list a $1,395 CR-V destination fee, but Cars.com's arithmetic matches its own prices, so we used $1,550.

The efficiency numbers are closer than the price gap suggests. Honda's page lists the CR-V Hybrid at 43 city, 36 highway and 40 combined with front-drive, 40, 34 and 37 with AWD, and 38, 33 and 35 for the TrailSport, which FuelEconomy.gov confirms for 2026 and 2027. Nissan's estimate for the Rogue Hybrid is 40, 36 and 38, and the Rogue is always AWD. At 15,000 miles a year and $4.2953, our arithmetic gives about $1,700 for the Rogue, $1,740 for an AWD CR-V and $1,610 for a front-drive CR-V. Carscoops adds that Nissan's own comparison puts the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid AWD at 42 mpg and its all-wheel-drive entry price $2,190 below the Rogue Hybrid, so neither of these is the efficiency leader.

Whether a hybrid pays for itself is a separate question. Carscoops says the Rogue Hybrid costs $4,300 to $4,500 more than the equivalent gas Rogue, whose 2026 EPA rating is 31 mpg with AWD. Moving from 31 to 38 mpg saves about 89 gallons, roughly $380, a year at 15,000 miles, which is more than eleven years of savings to recover a $4,300 premium. The CR-V case is stronger: the 29-mpg gas EX AWD costs about $35,050 and the 37-mpg Sport Hybrid AWD $37,530, a $2,480 gap, and the roughly $480 annual fuel saving repays it in about five years. Those are our own estimates, and the trims are not identical, but they show why the hybrid premium on the Nissan is harder to justify on fuel alone.

Space favors the Honda. Honda lists 36.3 cubic feet behind the rear seat and 71.8 with the seats folded for the Sport, TrailSport and Sport-L hybrids, and 34.7 behind the second row on the Sport Touring. One Honda comparison page shows a 76.5-cubic-foot maximum that matches the gas models, so the 71.8 figure may be the safer one. The Rogue's reported 31.1 and 65.9 are clearly lower, though they come from a single source. Towing is 1,000 pounds for the CR-V Hybrid, 1,500 for the gas CR-V and, provisionally, 1,500 for the Rogue Hybrid. Honda lists ground clearance of 7.8 inches front-drive and 8.2 inches AWD, and we found no Rogue Hybrid figure.

Equipment and feel are harder to compare, because only one of these cars has been written up on the road. Jalopnik says Nissan describes the Rogue Hybrid's acceleration as swift, smooth and confident but gives no 0-to-60 time, that regenerative braking allows one-pedal driving, that ProPilot driver assistance is standard, that two 12.3-inch screens are standard with 14.3-inch options, and that the cabin keeps physical climate controls, heated and ventilated seats and rear doors that open nearly 90 degrees. Honda's CR-V Hybrid lists 204 horsepower and about 3,870 to 3,930 pounds in AWD form on its specification page, whose table layout is garbled, so treat the weight as approximate, and Kelley Blue Book's owner reviews of the gas CR-V mention windshield wind noise and worry about the 1.5-liter engine. We found no instrumented test of either hybrid, so the real-world mileage, the noise of a generator engine that runs when the battery is low, and the Rogue's actual acceleration are all open questions.

Crash-test results favor the Nissan, with a catch. IIHS rates the 2026 gasoline Rogue Good in small overlap and updated side tests and Acceptable in the updated moderate overlap test, with Marginal whiplash protection. The 2026 CR-V is Good in small overlap and side but Poor in moderate overlap, because rear-passenger restraints and dummy movement were Poor and the rear chest was Marginal. Headlights are Good on every trim of both. Front crash prevention is Acceptable vehicle-to-vehicle on both, and Good for pedestrians on the Rogue against Acceptable on the CR-V, whose pages note failures at night in some low-beam tests. Child-seat anchors are Good on the Rogue and Acceptable on the CR-V. The catch is that IIHS tested gasoline vehicles; neither hybrid is covered, and the new Rogue Hybrid has no results of its own. NHTSA gives both 2025 AWD models five stars overall, with four in the frontal test and four in rollover.

Availability is the other catch. Per Jalopnik, only the Rogue Hybrid SR with the Technology package reaches dealers this fall, at $43,065 with destination, and the SV, SR and Platinum follow in early 2027. Jalopnik also says the Rogue plug-in hybrid is expected to be phased out and that a gasoline-only 2027 Rogue has not been confirmed. The CR-V is simply on sale, and it dominates the numbers: a Reuters-sourced ranking republished by Capital.com has the CR-V at 110,730 in the third quarter, up 16.6 percent, and 336,844 through September, up 9.5 percent, while the Rogue sold 66,021, up 26.3 percent, and 201,991, up 24.8 percent. Both figures include every version, not just hybrids.

Ownership terms need checking. Honda's warranty page, as summarized in search results we could not open directly, says gradual loss of high-voltage battery capacity is expected and not covered, but greater-than-normal degradation is covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles. We could not open Nissan's warranty page and found no Rogue Hybrid battery terms. A series hybrid with a small 1.67-kilowatt-hour battery will cycle it hard and often, so it is worth asking Nissan what covers it. Our guide to hybrid battery life explains why heat, not age, is the factor to watch.

So which one? Buy the CR-V Hybrid if you want a proven system with a federal rating, the most cargo space, the cheapest entry at front-drive, 40 mpg without AWD, and the biggest dealer network, and can accept IIHS's Poor rear-passenger score. Buy the Rogue Hybrid if you want standard AWD, 225 horsepower and the lowest price in the group at SV level, value the better crash-test record of the gasoline Rogue and are willing to wait for the EPA's numbers and an early-2027 trim. If you are fuel-minded above all, test the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid too. Whatever you pick, wait for the Rogue's EPA label before paying a premium over a gasoline car, because at 38 mpg the savings are modest and the price gap is not.
